Ubisoft admits Ghost Recon Breakpoint has been a huge disappointment in sales and critical reception, and in this context, it’s delaying Watch Dogs Legion, Rainbow Six Quarantine and Gods and Monsters to 2020-2021

    Full press statement: https://m.marketscreener.com/UBISOFT-ENTERTAINMENT-4719/news/Ubisoft-Entertainment-UPDATES-FINANCIAL-TARGETS-AND-RELEASE-SCHEDULE-FOR-2019-20-29449914/

    Excerpt regarding GR Breakpoint performance:

Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, said "Over the past few years, we have delivered many high-quality titles, built a portfolio of diversified franchises and successfully conducted the digital transformation of our business. We have significantly grown our operations for PC, and in Asia and esports, and have further developed our Uplay platform. And we can now draw on a very robust back-catalog, which ended up again above our expectations in the second quarter, including the particularly outstanding momentum of Rainbow Six Siege and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

However, we have not capitalized on the potential of our latest two AAA releases. For Ghost Recon Breakpoint, while the game's quality appeared on track – based on E3, Gamescom, previews and our latest internal playtests –, critical reception and sales during the game's first weeks were very disappointing. As we have done with past titles, we will continue to support the game and listen to the community in order to deliver the necessary improvements.

At this stage, we have identified three main reasons behind this underperformance:

First, it is harder to generate interest for a sequel to a Live multiplayer game, when prior iterations benefited from years of optimization. Consequently, we need to make sure there is more time between each iteration of Live games.

Second, our strategy of introducing gameplay innovations in our games has had a very positive impact on our brands. However, to win over players, these innovations need to be perfectly implemented in order to offer an optimal experience. This has not yet been sufficiently the case with Ghost Recon Breakpoint. While the change of formula has been very well received by some players, with an average daily playtime per player of over three hours, it also has been strongly rejected by a significant portion of the community.

Finally, Ghost Recon Breakpoint did not come in with enough differentiation factors, which prevented the game's intrinsic qualities from standing out. We are tackling these issues head-on and already are implementing significant changes to our production processes. We are confident in our capacity to adapt and evolve, as we have done successfully many times in the past.

In this overall context, we have decided to postpone the releases of Gods & Monsters, Rainbow Six Quarantine and Watch_Dogs Legion until 2020-21. While each of these games already has a strong identity and high potential, we want our teams to have more development time to ensure that their respective innovations are perfectly implemented so as to deliver optimal experiences for players. This decision will have a very significant impact on our financial results for this fiscal year and goes against our recent successes in building a more stable development model. However, it is in line with our strategy to maximize the future value of our brands for the long-term benefit of our employees, players and shareholders. We expect it to have a positive impact on our financial performance as from 2020-21.

Going forward, we are ideally positioned to benefit from the industry's strong expansion and constant evolution. We are investing to develop our franchises and PRI, to fully tap the potential of the mobile market, to accelerate our growth in Asia and esports, and to reap the benefits of our brands ownership in the context of the rise of streaming and the multiplication of platforms. These opportunities are powerful drivers for our future topline and profitability growth."

"...we will continue to support the game and listen to the community in order to deliver the necessary improvements..." A good start would be barrel and stock customization. They can be purely cosmetic and do nothing to the stats for all I care.

Ubisoft, please don't abandon this game due to poor sales and reception. Show us you can really listen and support it. It can bounce back for at least your dedicated community.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 10:21 AM PDT

Look at Star Wars Battlefront II. It had a very controversial and rocky start. It's not been a smooth road for that game. But Dice and EA didn't give up and even now it's going strong with content and updates. It may not be making the money that they expected but the community is engaged and loyal.

You can bet when we get Battlefront III that it will benefit from the dedication shown to redeem II. Breakpoint has been a failure. You just admitted that when you delayed your other titles and talked about where GRBP has fell flat.

But it's also an opportunity. It's a chance to do right by your fans. We want this game to succeed. We want it to be a representation of the franchise we love. There is still time to fix the game. Enhance, improve and add features. It's not just about how you can learn for future titles, it's about how well you can make the game we have already invested in bounce back.

Fix the bugs. Really listen to feed back. Implement good ideas. Engage with us. Talk to us. Use your community Ubisoft. We are here to support your devs with our passion for the game.

Don't let Breakpoint become Splinter Cell Blacklist.

The recent news about Ghost Recon Breakpoint underperforming in sales etc should motivate Ubisoft Paris to fix everything and try to make this one of the best Ghost Recon Games

Take a moment to just let that sink in. NPCs don't even respond to you in Breakpoint. "Can you tell me X location?" "..." "Thanks, stranger"

So will this be upheld next Tuesday?

What do you guys think? Instead of the campaign we got, what if we landed on the island together with walker, we have to fight our way towards the end, and throughout the game Walker starts forming his current ideology of we can use drones to stop all wars/weaponizing the drones etc. Then he turns.

Carrying people for revive.. why not drag?

Carrying people for revive.. why not drag?

So picking someone up and having to move them is a nice touch.. but takes fucking forever. And is pretty much gonna get you murdered in PVP. There's a cutscene in the game of someone being dragged to safety with the person dragging the wounded firing and shit. Why can't we have that instead.. or have it as a Field Medic perk? The person who is downed doesn't have to have the ability to shoot either

Dunno if this has been brought up before.. but it would such a nice change or ability to have that would greatly help in PVP and probably coop as well.

Not my character >.> Found it on the youtubes.

    How it should've happened.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 06:36 PM PDT

IF you wanna make a game for bandwagoners, Divison and gear score ********, PvP, tactical human version of Destiny then use the closed-test feedback from Fortnite and fantasy PvP players to shape the game.

If you wanted to build a proper successor to Wildands - then use the guys who enjoyed the 'sim/survival/storyline' to review the ******* game.

The bare bones are amazing - but the arcade mode genre it has been squished into has ****ed the game. You really wanted to sell it super well - give it to the Dev squad, employ the guys who left Pandemic that produced Mercenaries, the guys who built SOCOM1-3, some of the ideas from Full Spectrum Warrior and return us to real world environments, THEN apply the creativity which was driving the games forward.

You have BEAUTIFUL components of things to bring in.

The HUD from Div2, the world building from Bolivia and Auroa, the gunsmith from Future Soldier, prone camo, the concept of the bivouac, the Far Cry 2 survival and the little things like the grass burning to chance the dynamics of a battle etc.

What did the Green Beret actually contribute? You're Ubisoft Paris - why not ask some French SF or Legionnaires to assist too? Build a real-world environment, not a silhouette of some island off the south of NZ extrapolated.

    Some ideas:

Give gear a Weight/'Shielding'/Carrying Capacity/Camo attribute so it effects loadout and choices
Weapon Buffs in BR seem nice, but open the gunsmith up and attribute the variants to the Classes not the weapons themselves
Let us use the weapons from the start like a real USSOCOM deployment, along with the cam - even if we have to go to bivouac or FOB to change like Ghost Mode
Increase the use of the survival aspects, weather effects, requirements of eating etc

Increase the worlds populace and live-feel, Bolivia was great with so many random things happening.
Mercenaries 2 had bases which were held once captured, why not do that and then have 'raids' where large enemy offensives need to be held off randomly across the region.
Personally I think Africa would've been the ultimate place to use generically - border patrols, civilians with influence (i.e. civilian casualties increase enemy density, civilian rescues or resource collection increases friendly density)
Occasional backup to AFRICOM units in some storylines, or Drone support etc, vs some missions just alone or with the four man AI squad (SOCOM1-3 voice commands here would be INCREDIBLE)
    Destroyable environments like R6Siege

If Ubisoft has half a brain they will retrieve Breakpoint as best as they can, and then start working on a Wildlands 2 and a return to real world events. Please. As an aside - you guys are about 5 years too late to have a hit with R6Quarantine too - Zombie fun is over, why not give us a tactical R6 game in a destroyable 3D environment, like Raven Shield could be in 2020.

    Thanks.

Anyone noticed how BAD the sidemissions are?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 03:03 PM PDT

I just managed to play 2 sidemissions. Well I don't know what to say... I' m stunned...

I don't have an issue with going from A to B then to C. But here you have to go to D and E then F and half an hour later you get to S(ucks). That combined with a sidemission story thats completely off in this setting - like talking to a retarded psychologist then, to its Patients that are Level over 9000 retarded - and have a 3 minute long, absolutely pointless conversation with each of them - that you simply cant skip - and if you „stop" it, you need to start all over again, just to find a dude that was...yeah who was he again? I don't even know why I needed to find that guy anymore... did I mention that none of the „patients" had even lip sync? They didn' t move the lips a single time... (thats the new AAA I guess)

Let that sink in, a ghost operator, whose team is killed...that is supposed to be hunted while being outgunned and fighting for survival on an isolated island and needs to stop a real serious threat... runs some kind of crazy pointless errands that are completely out of context for some crazy dudes that sent you to 20 different locations and where you achieve like nothing... wow... guess I'll put that game aside for a while... this really got me today...

I just... I cant understand how somebody decided that this kind of „thing" will fit the Ghost Recon franchise and actually let people put hours in...wasting resources...

Needed to vent because I never felt like something was wasting my time so bad. Thanks for hearing me out...

Breakpoint: What would you fix as a matter of priority? What features would you add?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 07:12 PM PDT

I've put a lot of time into this game so far, I put in a lot of time into Wildlands and the other TC titles before that. I'm enjoying Breakpoint, but I'm more loyal to the franchise than I am the game. If Breakpoint wasn't a TC Ghost Recon game, I probably would not have purchased the game.

I don't claim to be an expert, but here are my suggestions based on what I perceive to be the game's shortcomings and what could potentially be done to spice things up, add a bit of variety, and potentially improve things:

    1. Smarter AI. The AI at the moment is basically a meme. Infiltrate a base, find a building and camp by the doorway, waiting for the Sentinel soldiers to pile in one by one, rinse and repeat. Apart from the drones - that will either fly right up to you or launch a rocket in your general direction - there's not a whole lot stopping you from camping a spot inside a building, and not a whole lot to deter you from doing so. Enemy NPCs need flush you out with grenades, stun you with flashbangs, etc.
    2. Scalable enemy difficulty, and I don't mean changing your difficulty in the game options. What I mean is - like in other games - the bigger your squad gets, the more difficult and greater in number your enemies should be. Even on Extreme mode at the moment, taking down a 250+ Wolves' camp seems too easy.
    3. Bring in Ghost mode (similar to what we saw in Wildlands), and with this new resource collection and crafting system (food, utility items, meds, etc.), put more emphasis on survival. No purchasing gear/weapons from shops, no crafting weapons from blueprints; all that you can use has to be taken from your fallen enemies or looted from their arms caches. The same would go for vehicles. No vehicle purchases, but if there's a vehicle that you fancy, steal and store it at Erewhon.
    4. Wind. Sure, there's bullet drop, but I know that if I fire my weapon at long range directly at the target, I will more often than not hit my target. If you're slinging lead from medium to close range then wind won't be a factor, but at long range you should have to adjust your aim not just for bullet drop but also for wind direction and wind speed. Perhaps this could be scaled with game difficulty, e.g. Arcade = no wind factor... Extreme = realistic wind factor.
    5. Ghosts stumble down declines too easily. I know that Nomad's getting a bit long in the tooth, but he shouldn't be struggling to negotiate a decline of five to ten degrees. In addition to this - even when your Ghost is sliding down a hill - they should still be able to fire their weapon, even if it's only hip-fire.
    6. Haruhi's hideout and the "nearby" bivouac... is there any reason why the bivouac can't be IN the base rather than atop that hill?
    7. PvP mode: Mercenaries. Mercenaries was a great update to Wildlands PvP, but unfortunately it was part of their final major update to Wildlands and came too late. It's a great PvP format: PvPvE. Make it happen in Breakpoint.
    8. The train. Why can't he hijack and loot that thing? Surely there's some valuable materials, weapons, etc. on it.
    9. Add some sort of incentive for replaying missions, perhaps player challenges that will unlock tiered rewards. For example: complete the mission without being detected, complete the mission without taking damage, complete the mission with a handgun only, etc. Fulfil the criteria, earn a score/ranking and unlock a reward.
    10. Buff the mounted mini-guns. They hit about as hard as wet noodles at the moment.
    11. A "sell all" option.
    12. A "dismantle all" option.
    13. A "buy multiple" option.
    14. An "apply to all" or "set as default configuration" option when adding attachments to the same type of weapon.
    15. Crossplay. I know this in the works, but the sooner this happens, the better. I'm on PC, and I lamented not being able to play with my friends on XBox1 or PS4. Buying a console (and console players buying PCs) was not the answer for me and I imagine it not being the answer for others.

I apologise if some of these suggestions were proffered by others in other posts, but there was a selfish need for me to make a contribution and hopefully offer something unique.

I want to play Breakpoint for a long time; for as long as I did Wildlands. I certainly hope with Ubisoft sharing the news of their disappointment with sales and subsequent delay to future projects, that it inspires them to make this game better and give us fans first of all what we were hoping and some. I hope they can deliver.
