    Fantastic UI design choices

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 03:57 PM PDT

Oh, I've got a couple orange quest markers on my tacmap. They all show up on my minimap when I play the game. I guess I'll go and put a beacon on the one that I want to do!

Oh what? Pressing X to try and put a beacon on it actually unpinned the orange quest from my map? Huh! That's unintuitive!

    Worst UI design ever.

Now that I think about it, the gear camouflages in Breakpoint are kind of taking the mick

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 06:42 PM PDT

I've been trying to think more critically about Breakpoint lately in spite of still enjoying it, and when looking at customisation in particular, I can't help but notice that Gear camo is honestly kind of... terrible.

At the start of the game, you only have access to a few solid colours (with a respectable amount being purchasable from Maria), plaid, and a grand total of one camouflage pattern- M05 Woodland. I honestly didn't mind this at first, as I like having to unlock stuff through gameplay, provided it's not overly grindy or limited-time. However, I expected there to be quite a few camo patterns, since you started with 30 or so in the previous game. Instead there are:

    • US Woodland

    • Navy Blue

    • Multicam Alpine

    • ABU (from the Ubi club)

...and that's it. Every other camouflage pattern in the game is either relatively expensive additional paid content (DCU, Flecktarn, Netting, Tiger stripe, 4 ExTp variants, 4 wolves variants, 4 Sentinel variants), locked behind multiplayer (several A-TACs camouflages), limited time battle pass stuff (CADPAT, DPM, Tropentarn, Digital Tiger, UCP-D), or aren't yet available in spite of being visible in game (Multicam, formerly UCP, CADPAT AR, Snow ERDL, Chocolate Chip before they were removed). I really don't understand why it was set up this way, especially considering that camouflages are presumably just one diffuse texture (unless Ubi has them set up in a really weird way), and yet cost ~£4 each (with some only being available in £10 bundles of four).

Limited time items in general are just an unpleasant addition to any game, but it's particularly egregious here as it seems like (eventually, after a few Acts) most of the game's items are only going to be available for a limited time. Also, I know this has been done to death, but having Multicam (the one thing that I think we can all agree you should start with) in the game but not usable until an endgame event three months or so after launch is just mad.

My apologies for the rant, but for whatever reason this has really been grinding my gears all of a sudden.

Is a gameplay philosophy of "Freedom of Choice" incompatible with a compelling narrative?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 12:34 PM PDT

The title mostly gets at my question, but over the last decade so many publishers have tried to create massive open world sandboxes with the philosophy that the player can choose how to engage with that world and then the game ends up with a less than compelling story and a less immersive gameplay loop. Case and point is MSGV. It was a fantastic and very polished game , but after a while all the bases were pretty much the same and the story, as far as Metal Gear goes was, underwhelming to say the least. Wildlands and Breakpiont fall into this same trap. One might argue in a worse way than MSGV. Open world games that have very compelling stories are also very linear in the actual story telling-- Red Dead for example allows for exploration but when you actually do missions your put on fairly tight rails. Same with GTA 5. I kind of wonder if its impossible to do both?

    SO disappointed in this game.

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 01:00 PM PDT

Completed main story, 200 gear score, and left with a big black whole in my heart.

Wildlands was an absolute treat of a game. Most everything made sense, the map was super realistic and beautiful, the mood of the game was on point, the story had meaning, and the weapon system was FAR better.

Seen as we are in 2019 and graphics has come a little way, I was really expecting this GR to be fantastic, with great graphics, an interesting and captivating story and great physics.

But the reality is; I was greeted with none of the above.

After having played this game for too long, I'm just super disappointed. It just seems some "smart" heads at Ubisoft thought it would be a great idea to mix GR with Division.

I would give this game an 3/10. In 2019 there are far better games to spend your money on.

    416 Assault Special

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 07:54 PM PDT

What's up with the missing attachments?
No suppressor and the mawl-da laser?
    Who chose this?
All other 416 rifles can use a suppressor and the mawl-da laser, but the decision to not allow them on the Assault Special is beyond me.
