    Ghosts,

We will be performing a small maintenance on our servers' loadbalancer today Wednesday, March 18th.

    Time: 14:20 CET / 09:20 EDT / 06:20 PDT

    Downtime: approx. 1 minute.

    • A small number of players will be affected by this and might be disconnected from the game. They will need to reconnect again.

    Thank you for understanding.

    Raids 2.0 mockup!

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 05:00 PM PDT

    Raids 2.0 mockup!

Raid II has been canceled, but there is a silver lining! I imagine Raids in Ghost Recon to be open ended military ops where the player decides every aspect of their plan. The potential is there: episodic, open ended missions with a focus on player tactics and replayability.

No more MMO style raids! These military raids will be endgame experiences that test player's strategy and thinking. Simple objectives but up to the player's execution.

Some elements will make reference to my unreleased Breakpoint story rewrites.

    RAIDS 2.0

    OVERVIEW

Raids are co-op focused missions with an overarching narrative featuring maritime, CQB, interdiction, and more experiences. There are a large amount of approaches focusing on player tactics, less emphasis on drones. Player choice is paramount to these new raids.

There are dynamic elements and the player can use their Ghost Experience settings. Each raid supports groups of 4-8 players, including the host's AI teammates.

    OPS TABLE

Raids are accessed via the Ops Table, located in Erewhon, the USS Wasp, and [REDACTED].

    Ops Table in Erewhon

From the Ops Table, players can:

    • Plan and launch Raids
    • Quicklaunch Campaign missions
    • Choose their AI teammates
    • Find co-op partners

    PLANNING MENU

Player's can choose the raid (and view briefings) from the Ops Table. When they have their team and mission, players will be presented with the Planning Menu:

Raid 1, Season 1, Cargo Ship

From the Planning Menu, players are free to modify their loadouts, choose their method of insertion, and "draw" on the map using the Stamp feature, which I will go into below.

For Cargo Ship, there is one objective: Rescue the Hostages.

There are multiple bonus objectives, optional tasks for extra rewards that have no impact on mission success. Some bonus objectives are universal such as speed runs, accuracy, and no alerts, while others are mission exclusive such as capturing the Sentinel Ship Captain.

Players will see optional objectives after their first successful completion of the raid, though they can still complete optional objectives before knowing what they are.

    Optional objective rewards:

    • Weapons
    • Cosmetics
    • Vehicles
    • Insertion methods

Optional objectives will be crossed off once completed, and only count as completed after a successful raid.

Players can also choose their method of insertion:

    • Helicopter
      • Player controls helicopter to drop off teammates
    • Helicopter (AI)
      • AI drops off players at a predetermined location
    • Vehicle
      • Player takes control of a vehicle in the AO
      • In Cargo Ship for example, players can choose a RHIB or even infiltrate under water in an SDV
    • On Foot
      • Players infiltrate the area on foot
      • In Cargo Ship, players will SCUBA
    • Halo Jump
      • Players skydive into the AO
    • More
      • Completing optional objectives unlocks more insertion methods and vehicles

Once all players are ready, the Host can select Deploy and choose the time of day.

    DYNAMIC ELEMENTS

Dynamic elements ensure the raids stay fresh and challenging across multiple runs. These include:

    • Weather
      • Affects line of sight and hearing
      • Affects enemy patrols and guard positions
    • Enemy patrols
    • Enemy numbers
    • Intel locations
      • Optional intel that can open up new optional objectives in future raids and affect briefings

    FREEDOM OF CHOICE

Players create their own methods for achieving their objective and can steal enemy radios, interrogate, and destroy assets as they choose.

    MISSION PHASES

Raids can be broken down into two phases: Stealth and Action. Players are capable of completing a raid in a single phase through careful planning and execution.

    Stealth

    • The infiltration phase
    • Sabotage enemy assets
    • Observe patrols
    • Enemies will have status checks at timed intervals

    Action

    • The combat phase
    • QRFs at timed intervals, leading to infinite reinforcements that challenge rather than overwhelm the player
    • Use of enemy Escalation, which can change objectives and enemy behavior

    ENEMY BEHAVIORS

New to Ghost Recon are enemy Internal and External status checks.

    • Internal: Radioman will check in with the soldiers every 5 minutes
      • Player's can force soldiers to check in by grabbing them
      • After 45 seconds (3 15 second check intervals) of no response, the dispatcher sends a team to investigate. The radioman gets more and more annoyed with each unanswered check.
      • Provides the player with an idea of how many enemies are on the map
    • External: A central base will check in with the Radioman every 12 minutes
      • Sends QRF after 45 seconds (3 15 seconds check intervals) of no response
      • Chopper QRF arrives in 5 minutes, armed with miniguns, snipers, and reinforcements
      • Vehicle QRF arrives in 8 minutes, has more reinforcements
      • QRFs have no limit in raids and will arrive in intervals (Choppers every 5 minutes, vehicles every 8 minutes)

    Escalation

    • Enemy behavior changes based on player actions
      • Alerts will cause enemies to move HVTs/Hostages and request additional support
      • Enemies will coordinate and search the player's last known location
      • Enemies will set traps and ambushes where they think you're going
    • Sentinel forces will also lock down areas, including roads and checkpoints, and deny assets to the player. This can even change the player's objectives.
    • Escalation increases the longer the enemy stays in combat with the player
      • This means shock and awe tactics are still viable. Speed, surprise, success.

These behaviors can be brought to the main game using the Ghost Experience.

    SECURITY

Raid locations feature increased security, more so than locations in the base game. Each security layer can be affected by the player and doesn't always directly lead to an alert.

    • Security Centers
      • Monitor cameras, dispatch teams, handle internal and external status checks
      • Dispatches search parties and investigation teams consisting of 2 members
    • Cameras
      • Spot the player, bodies, and disturbances, monitored by Security team
      • Security team will send a team to investigate if a camera is damaged or jammed
    • Locked doors
      • Can be picked or breached
      • Breaching starts a few seconds of slomo
    • IR tripwires
      • Set off alarms, can be seen in vision mode
    • Motion sensors
      • Detect motion in pulses
      • Security team will send a team to investigate if a motion sensor is damaged or jammed
    • Patrols
      • Random patrols, will investigate disturbances
      • Outskirts patrols will have less frequent radio checks. Search parties will search a broader area and consist of 5 members

These security measures can be added to the main game using Ghost Experience toggles.

    MAP STAMPING

Players can make marks on the map - both in the planning menu and in their regular maps - using the Stamp feature. "Stamps" are premade symbols that the players can freely place on the map to mark locations of interest, infiltration spots, routes, resources, and player plans.

These symbols include, but are not limited to:

    • X's
    • Circles
    • Letters
    • Arrows
    • Settlements
    • Bases
    • Player written text
    • Rendezvous Points
    • Enemies

Players can freely scale, rotate, and color these stamps as well. These stamps will also be visible on the minimap. Player map stamps will be overwritten by the host's stamps. This will be an invaluable asset for player created ops and anyone that doesn't use map markers.

    RAID SEASONS

Each year will be a new season of Raids each consisting of 4 episodes released periodically throughout the year. I myself have drafted three years of raids consisting of their own overarching narratives and characters.

Yearly Pass owners get one week early access plus free cosmetic packs on each release. Cosmetic packs can be bought in the store and individually but the most value is with the Yearly Pass.

    For example:

    RAIDS - SEASON 1

Sentinel is developing a devastating new drone prototype. With reinforcements from the Wasp, the Ghosts plan counter operations against Sentinel forces.

    • Cargo Ship
      • Extract hostages aboard a cargo ship
    • Convoy
      • Intercept a convoy carrying a prototype drone
    • Liberty
      • Locate acclaimed Skell Engineer and extract him
    • Airfield
      • Seize an airfield and capture an HVT aboard a grounded plane

Each mission is open ended and offers unique tactical experiences and escalations.

    PROJECT TITAN

Raid 1 is a fun experience, but it's biggest flaw is that it doesn't fit into Ghost Recon in its current state.

Project Titan will no longer be a raid. Instead, it will be content unlocked towards the tail end of the campaign featuring Golem Island as an endgame location with the 4 Titan bosses (including their intel gathering phases) as their own missions that can be done in any order, like the missions in the main game. Golem Island will be free to explore for solo players and faction missions will be added.

I believe this kind of raid content, simple and open ended missions focusing on player choice with story, can boost the longevity of Breakpoint for years to come. More can be done more often as well instead of creating whole new islands and drones. Similar to the Special Operations of Wildlands but less scripted but still has the potential for crossovers.

Like this version of Raids? Got any feedback? Let me know in the comments! I know I would gladly pay for a Yearly Pass with this kind of content.

Let us give support to the dev teams during the crisis

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 08:18 AM PDT

Please, let somebody tell the devs there are many of us in our community who sincerely appreciate their efforts and who understand how these COVID-19 lockdowns around the world can diminish their quality of life. Tell them to take it easy and take care of themselves, we are willing to nurture patience in regard to the updates and releases and support. Let us all really be in this together.

GRB: Got bored and timed Nomad to see how fast he can run.

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 09:50 PM PDT

I went to the track just south of Parliament Shopping Street in Liberty province to time the run. Starting at the 50yd line, Nomad runs/jogs (not sprints) one lap in 1:20. That's a 5:10ish mile! All without breaking a sweat. He can sprint around the track in 55 seconds also. For as big as he is, this guy can move! No modifiers to movement speed or stamina recovery.

Sorry for the low effort post, it's been on my mind awhile to do this.

    Hard time getting into Wildlands

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 04:40 PM PDT

With the Immersive Update coming next week for Breakpoint I thought about getting into Wildlands since I never finished it. I just find myself having a hard time getting into the game. Something about it just bores me compared to Breakpoint. I turned off my minimap to try to make the experience a bit more immersive but it's just not doing it for me. I don't know if bumping the difficulty up would do anything for me. I'm not sure what to do since I want to wait for the new patch until I get back into Breakpoint. Any ideas on what I can possibly do?
