RAID. Ubi - Please open Golem island for exploration!

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 09:45 AM PST

Tried out the RAID and got to say it is not for me. BUT, I had a ton of fun exploring Golem island. Snuck up on a wolf camp ready to do some sniping and -BOOM, squad mate stepped on a mine I ran to revive him and -BOOM I stepped on a mine. We were in the middle of a mine field and now the wolves were alerted. The only way to navigate the mine was to listen to the audible beep. it would get louder as you get closer. Some nice bases and enimies to fight on Golem island.

Why cant we explore the island Ubisoft? Cant start the raid without your squad of 4 so why close off the island as well. Your thoughts?

Lack of story and recon in gameplay

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 03:13 PM PST

The gameplay loop in breakpoint is separated from the story in a pretty big way. Missions play out like this you get sent base to base to interact with a computer or person to get sent to another base and repeat until you're directed to your actual objective. The interaction with the computer is automated and requires just a button press, nothing interesting or involved and no real information gained often a picture is gained of the next based you have to exterminate and loot. When it comes to dealing with people friendly or not the conversation is brief and play out the same dull and uninteresting way everytime, you "hey give me information." Them "I've told you everything I know." There is nothing interesting about this and it in know way advances the story. This is the "recon" method of gather Intel in this game. You only get minor bits of back story from scattered collectables, what a great way to experience the story in a cluttered game menu rather than through experience.

Now, looking back to Wildlands the story and the mission went hand in hand as did actual recon. You would spy on important targets to get information, tail them record meeting, capture and interrogate them on the spot or extract them for interrogation later all the while having a chat with them. You would exploit poor relations that you learned of while doing these things, frame and sabotage to shake things up and see the results of those things. Your character had actual meaningful conversations and the story progressed nicely, on top of that you and your squad would talk about the missions and advance the story as well. You spoke with characters over the radio and phone advancing the story. The cutscene and voice acting were significantly better. There was character development through the game, which is breakpoint is pretty devoid of, most character feel like nothing more than a cameo role. There are far too many examples to list in how well connected the story and your actual recon-ing and missions were in wildlands. Breakpoint totally dropped the ball here and it basically amount to the game having very little plot and just sending location to location so you can exterminate and loot them. It comes of as the core focus is to kill and loot and then the story is a short after thought.

I hope when they go through the process of adding in the ai squad mates they not only work them into the story but also rework the story to be more in involved not just gameplay wise but narrative wise. It is brief and detached as is.

Edit: Wildlands wasn't perfect obviously we all remember its faults but the thing it did well was driving forward the story through the gameplay and keeping you immersed despite the bugs here's a video that shows some of what I'm talking about for those that can't remember. https://youtu.be/bPbl0qkngvM

    Not my video btw.

Operations mode- A substitute for the raid?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 10:03 AM PST

Let me just say right off the bat that I appreciate what Ubisoft is trying to do with the Ghost Recon raid. They are trying to implement a challenging, objective-based raid that requires coordinated teamwork. However, it's no secret that many players are not happy with the raid and think it's really not in the spirit of what Ghost Recon has always been about. I can concede that it really does feel a lot like a Division raid, rather than something you'd expect to find in Ghost Recon. A friend and I were talking about it, and we came up with an idea for a game mode to replace the current raid. Let's call it "Operations" for the sake of the argument.

What if we had an Operations mode where, like the raid, you get a team of 4 and you choose an operation to tackle. One could be a stealth recon mission in a jungle, one could be a desert assassination mission, one could be an intelligence/hacking mission in a snowy region, one could be a hostage rescue mission in a tropical region, etc. These operations would obviously be much more robust and difficult than the faction missions and require coordination and teamwork like special forces teams actually do in real life.

Your team can decide HOW to infiltrate- by air, land, or sea, and you can even decide WHERE to infiltrate. Have all four sneak in from the south, split into teams of two and approach from two different locations, have one teammate set up as a sniper and provide spotting and cover fire for the infiltrating team, etc. There would be tons of replayability, and there can be competitions for the best completed time. This seems like it would be a better and more appropriate addition to a Ghost Recon game.

    Missed opportunity for stealth gameplay

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 04:13 PM PST

So far, my most enjoyable character is my pistol only - I like to RP as 4th Echelon rather than as Ghost. It would've been awesome to see this game push for more extreme gameplay styles - from non-lethal / pure stealth (Sam Fisher) classes to heavy assault classes. I think stealth as a concept had so much more to offer - I mean it's ubi- they have Splinter Cell and Assassins Creed - heaps of material to draw from - rather than just run and gun with two canons on your back regardless of stealth. Just one example: It's a shame we can't holster all of our weapons - it seems doable as Erewon shows. Or even just equip the knife for faster takedowns. Ghost Recon has the grounds for allowing these more extreme playstyles - it's just a shame it's prioritised looter shooter over this. In any case - still going to pursue with my pistol only.

Since we have no ia team mates, I would love to have a k9 dog as my companion. I know they want to bring the ai squad back, but i think a k9 would fit better in br.
