Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint - January and Early 2020 Update

    Ghosts,

Back in October 2019, we posted an idea of what to expect Moving Forward for the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon® Breakpoint experience. With the start of the New Year, we wanted to share an update on what we've been working on and what you can expect as the year continues.

We want to express our gratitude to each one of you who has shared your opinions, concerns, and comments about the game. We appreciate the feedback we've been hearing and continue to take it to heart. We want you as a community to enjoy a great Ghost Recon experience, and there's no better way to create that than to listen to the opinions of players.

We're excited to be working on new Ghost Recon Breakpoint content and you can expect to see community-driven changes, Title Updates, and new content in 2020.

    TU 1.1.0

We're glad to share that this will be releasing shortly and you can expect to see TU 1.1.0 live by the end of January!

This TU will address the following changes, among others:

    • Made improvements to Night Vision.
    • Sharpshooter exploit with DMR rifles addressed in all modes (PvP, Raid, PvE).
    • Players who previously lost their Thermal / Night Vision will get it back after loading their save.
    • Players who previously lost their Water Canteen or Binoculars will get them back after loading their save.
    • Rebalanced Stamina for PvP after it was buffed in a previous TU.
    • Toned down the coughing sounds players could hear while in Erewhon.
    • Enemies will no longer shout in pain after being shot in the head.
    • Improved AI behavior:
      • Fixed an issue where enemies investigating will go to cover mid-detection.
      • If enough NPCs die at a single spot, they will stop rushing the player and will get into cover more often than before.
      • We also modified the vanish rules so that NPCs will stay in the fight if they are close enough to the player.
    • The Digital Scope now has multiple levels of zoom.

    TERMINATOR LIVE EVENT

In addition to the Title Update, the Terminator Live Event will be invading Ghost Recon Breakpoint soon. Be on the lookout for more intel!

    UPCOMING CONTENT

You can see the roadmap above for an idea of our plans in the near future. The end of February is sure to bring some exciting changes, including the long-awaited Engineer Class, as well as the immersive experience that we mentioned in the Moving Forward letter.

    COMMUNITY SURVEY TOPICS

As we mentioned in the Community Survey Results, we also plan on providing updates and changes to items requested within the survey with a focus on those that were most frequently mentioned. You can look forward to the implementation of some of these changes later this year.

Thank you again to everyone who has shared their feedback. We understand there is still work ahead of us, but we look forward to these new opportunities. Happy New Year!

I don't *hate* this game, but patches won't fix it

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 12:00 AM PST

I still haven't beaten Breakpoint. I've killed most of the Wolves, did the vast majority of missions, still have Flycatcher, other guy, Hill and Jon Bernthal to shoot at for a bit, I'm pretty high up in level, and all around, got by. At its core, there's a fun gameplay loop here.

Yeah, the enemy AI is dogshit, but there is a fun lil power fantasy going on when you're blasting fools left and right. Taking on one of those Metal Gears by myself in the mountains was oddly empowering despite it taking a good eight minutes. And I just generally enjoy the feel of the game well enough.

But it's damaged goods that nothing short of a complete overhaul will fix, and Ubisoft damn sure ain't gonna do that when they can divvy that cash towards a future project not yet sullied by such a terrible first impression.

    Here's what I mean:

Say this patch comes along and adds AI buddies, gives you more cosmetic items to choose from without spending real money, addresses some of the survival balances, and all that jazz.

End of the day, what's it all in service of?

It's in service of ho-hum missions that mostly play out the same, which in and of itself would be tolerable, were it not for the fact that each and every single mission stretches well beyond its own proverbial 'Breakpoint,' where you go to a place, and have to go to another place, and have to go to yet another place. Sometimes, even having to go 10+k m out. And this ain't Spider-Man where actually getting from A to B is a blast. It's the worst, most binary "fly from A to B" bullshit where you're flying for several minutes on end with no music, no moments of intrigue, and everything just feels pointless spaced out.

Minus Walker and the Metal Gears, all the "boss fights" are just slightly different skins for Wolves, which honestly, felt like one of the biggest missed opportunities with this game. Imagine how killer it would've been giving the Wolves actual honest to God boss fights. Wouldn't have been super hard either. Turn them into bullet sponges but give them the original Deus Ex treatment. You can't just pop them like soldiers, but you can utilize stealth to attack them with traps, from their blindspots, all that jazz. If they had real HP, but didn't also always know your location, then you'd have a perfect recipe for highly open-ended, proper stealth action boss fights. I think that's what they do with Walker, but I haven't gotten there yet, and far as I can tell, he's the only name character with a genuine boss battle to his name.

And it'd take a lot more than one patch to fix all the goddamn bugs, or the nonsense of this game always being online for reasons that continue to vex me.

A truly good open world game is one where you have incentive to come back to the missions, long after the credits have rolled. My go-to has always been MGSV. Every mission was short, accessible, highly open-ended, and highly entertaining (well, 30 out of 39 of 'em at least, fuck the Hospital mission) And why the fuck would I ever come back to any of these missions? They're a series of smaller missions all lumped together, and the problem with that is there's a lotta driving or flying to the other areas as a result, which is never, ever fun.

The solution to fixing Breakpoint would honestly require way too much work. You'd have to completely retool the missions so they're all shorter burst missions like Wildlands. You'd need to re-work all the quote unquote "boss fights" because it's kinda bullshit that these Wolves are painted as some pseudo Metal Gear Solid bad guy unit and I killed half of 'em without even realizing they were the boss target until I read the objective on the screen and realized I'd already killed them without knowing it. Then, you'd have to make all the genuinely cool cosmetics relegated exclusively behind paywalls becomes part of the game since without 'em, there's barely any cosmetics in a game that was pointlessly made into a looter-shooter-sans-loot. And obviously, the lemmings would need to be replaced with genuinely threatening enemies who don't all run to the same cover spot for me to get quick headshots one by one.

Breakpoint isn't a shit game. It isn't Left Alive or Contra: Rogue One. But damn is it disappointing, knowing it could be a really baller-ass third person shooter with some real tactical shit going on with certain missions (or at least the boss fights). I'm nonetheless to see how this Terminator event and AI patch turns out. But good God am I sick to death of this dogshit live-service-fix-it-in-post mentality so many publishers are steamrolling into the ground.

I know the soulless shareholders all demand having games out by certain quotas or they'll be very hissy-fitty, but devs and publishers need to at least pretend the games they release on launch are games they can be proud of. And there are only so many hours in the day. I gotta dedicate time between jobs to playing games in the dead of night, and I'd much rather play games I know will be fun, like Bloodstained, Death Stranding (a very particular kinda fun in that case), and MGSV again.

What I'm saying is, while No Mans Sky is a game that somehow got a complete re-birth with its giant patch, I ain't expecting that with a game that comes off as deeply cynical as Breakpoint does. Between its many bugs, bad AI, walling off of all cosmetics, making it always-online for literally no reason, and everything else going on, why are they gonna spend the money giving this game the overhaul it needs when it already left such a bad impression in everyone's mouth, and most have already moved onto better games, or at least games they enjoy more?

I have Uplay so i have access to a bunch of Ghost Recon games, currently playing breakpoint but its too easy. Whats the last ghost recon game to hold up its campaign difficulty. I remember GR Island thunder but thats the last of the series ive played.

Is there a particular GR you guys would recommend for co-op difficulty?
